Isolate - For what?
Among the various options for insulation materials, one of the most used and often referred to as one of the best is elastomeric foam. Its great advantage is the huge thermal amplitude (from -50°C to 105ºC) which allows it to be useful in the most diverse areas. It is also fire resistant, which gives it an extra property that is increasingly sought after (it is a fire-retardant/non-combustible material).
The big advantages of insulating the pipes are:
- Improved energy efficiency (main advantage)
- Decrease in water consumption
- Noise reduction
- Eliminate condensation, which in turn eliminates corrosion and the appearance of fungi and bacteria
However, we must be aware that, like all materials, there is an associated useful life period (due to the contractions and expansions it is subject to during its period of use), which is dependent on atmospheric conditions such as UV rays, rain, high or low relative humidity atmosphere, etc.
At least every 5 years we must take care to evaluate the insulation, checking if it is in perfect working condition or if it starts to show signs of degradation.
In case the insulation is in bad condition it can lead to large energy losses, but with its replacement the payback period can be only 1 or 2 years.
At Pinto e Cruz – Installations and Maintenance, we frequently perform maintenance and replacement of insulation.
One of our most recent improvements was the hydraulic circuit of the Jumbo de Faro HVAC network.
The work began by scraping the paint off the pipe, and only then putting in the new thermal insulation, ensuring an installation in perfect condition.
