Is it mandatory to carry out periodic inspection of freight elevators?
Yes. Periodic inspection is mandatory, even if the lifting equipment is not in operation in accordance with article 8 of Decree-Law 320/2002 of December 28th. Periodic inspections are required in writing by the lift maintenance company (EMA). The application must be accompanied by proof of payment of the fee. The owner is competent to pay the fee due for the periodic inspection, and EMA is responsible for sending the owner of the building the necessary elements for him to pay the fee due. The obligation to carry out periodic inspections of hoists with a nominal load of less than 100 kg is excluded.
